There is also a separate compartment with the zipper on the outside for putting things in without opening the laptop case
Inside there is a Velcro sleeve for things as well as plenty of room for phone, pens etc.

Buy 1" Larger if You Like Carrying a Bit of Stuff
I bought the 14" size for my 13.3" MacBook Air and it was a bit roomier than I wanted, however, once I added a power cable, a few pencils, paper pad, and a few other small items, this was the perfect size. The 13.3" size gives you a really nice snug fit with a little space for other items but the 14" works better if you prefer to carry a bit more along with your laptop. The bag is nicely designed and looks just like the photos. I think it will work well for me.
